What Is Hillel?

“The student group that celebrates Jewish culture, identity, pluralism, and community.”

Clark Hillel is affiliated with Hillel International, whose mission statement is “to enrich the lives of Jewish students so they may enrich the Jewish people and the world.”

Hillel assists students as they explore and define their Jewish identities to become inspired and effective leaders around the world. We welcome all students, from all backgrounds and walks of life, to join us.

Quick Facts About ClarkU Hillel:

  • 350 to 400 Clark undergraduate students, nearly 20 percent of the undergraduate student body, identify as Jewish
  • Two Shabbat services and a free kosher Shabbat dinner every week
  • A variety of additional programs each week
  • One of the most visible and active student organizations on campus

For all of these reasons and more, Clark has become one of the top choices for students looking for a small university with a strong Jewish community.

At first Clark Hillel seemed too ‘pluralistic’ for me, but as I developed more of my Jewish identity I was pleasantly surprised by the community we built by working together to accommodate and learn from each others’ traditions and beliefs.  I realized there was no one specific Clark Hillel student.  At such a small school, we created a tight-knit community that gave me the opportunity to learn more than I ever could have imagined.”
